Can anybody recommend a good nursery in middle tennessee or a reputable online nursery to buy fruit tree whips? Think I'm going to buy my hardwoods from the state nursery..

I got mine from The Wildlife Group. They are down near Montgomery, AL. The trees were bought bare root and at 2yrs since planting they are 6 to 8 feet tall on average. I got the whole fruit tree package and used the tubes, fertilize and "moisture mizer" granules per their instructions. It costs more up front but is well worth it in the time gained from the increased growth you get right away.

Call Turner and Sons south of Smithville and see what they have left in whips. Probably wont be much left that is any count this late but its worth a try. Other than them most anything I get in the apple world comes from Adams County Nursery or Century Farms Orchards online, thats not really whips though.

Lpo, check with your local coop. Mine has some nice apples, pears and berry bushes outside the greenhouse. Most trees are probably 6 to 7 feet tall.

I like the state nursery ( http://www.state.tn.us/agriculture/publications/forestry/seedlingcatalog.pdf ) because you are getting trees grown in Tennessee. I have been pleased with the seedlings I have seen from them and they have free delivery to your county. Order seedlings asap because most nurserys are running out of seedlings by now. Other options are the Virginia department of forestry seedling nursery ( http://www.dof.virginia.gov/nursery/index.htm ) and the Missouri department of conservation ( http://mdc.mo.gov/your-property/seedling-orders-and-planting-guide/seedling-order-how ).

The Virginia and Missouri website, will they let me order and ship to me since I'm out of state? Do you know?

I know Missouri will. You just pick a random MO county.

I have ordered from both and they have no problem shipping to Tennessee. I was very satisfied with what I received.
