Just a question, not sure if this is the proper place to ask.

Land along the Wolf River between Germantown Pkwy and Covington Pike. is this land privately owned or is it owned by the city or county. I know some of this land connects to land that is, what I believe to be owned by the Shelby County Penal Farm but no sure. There are trails that run along the river that are currently being used by 4-wheelers.

Just didn't know if this land is public or private and what kind of access is legal.

Thanks

You can look it up on the shelby co. registers (Tom Leatherwood) website to find out who owns what in shelby co. The Wolf River Conservancy owns alot of it.

Not TWRA, but I have checked into this before. Most of it is Wolf River Conservatory. TWRA has agreements with them for hunting on parts of it, but only those designated areas.

Couple of years ago, I was offered to hunt some commercial property in Memphis. I went out and checked it out and the only place to realistically (bow) hunt from was the tree line, which also happened to be the flood plain, which is owned by the Wolf River Conservatory. After talking with the TWRA regional officer, I was advised not to hunt on that land.

On a side note, there is a tiny WMA right off of I 40, Jackson Ave and old Austin Peay Hwy on a stretch of the Wolf River in North Memphis. Its the weirdest thing, but its on the the TWRA Google Earth App. I checked it out. Looks sketchy as people definitely hang out down there and build bonfires. I didn't see any deer tracks, but did see a lot of raccoon tracks. I'm sure there are deer down there at different times of the year. I'm also sure I wouldn't want to leave my vehicle unattended for very long.

I go by there every day heading to work. I've seen deer there just a few times, not many.

And I'm not sure I'd want to eat anything that came from that land, either.
