All right, let's see who can come up with the best shed antlers this year.

The prize, as of now, will be bragging rights on Tndeer. This is a "just for fun" contest and not for any serious prizes (unless someone would like to donate something).

Sign up starts NOW (February 10)
Sign up ends on Friday, February 15.

REPLY TO THIS THREAD TO SIGN UP.

Contest opens Saturday, February 16.

Contest closes on Sunday, May 12.

Sheds found before February 16 will not qualify for the contest.

Winning Categories:
-Biggest Shed (Highest B&C score)
-Smallest Shed (Lowest score)
-Biggest Matching Set (Highest B&C score with estimated spread)
-Most Sheds (Highest number of sheds found)

RULES: Read all rules before signing up...

-Whitetail deer sheds only; no skulls or broken-off antlers
-Score using B&C (Please read instructions below)
-Shed hunting with dogs is allowed
-A pic must be posted of each shed to be entered. A separate thread will be started for the entries.
-Each entry photo must have something recognizable for size reference next to the antler, not behind or in front of the antler.
-Sheds are not limited to Tennessee if a member is out of state
-No sheds found prior to February 16 may be entered

Good luck to all! Play fair and enjoy the woods.

--------------

HOW TO SCORE SHEDS:
Read this even if you already know - there may be slight differences in how your score your antlers.

We will use the B&C system for scoring. I don't believe they have a method for single antlers, but I have adapted their system for the contest.

For single sheds, you will need the following measurements, in inches, to the nearest 1/8 inch:

-Length of main beam
-Length of all points longer than 1 inch (this does not include the tip of the main beam)
-Four circumference measurements

Add the above measurements together to score the shed.

CLICK HERE and read the instructions on how to measure points, beams, circumference, etc. Read all the way through the form to the bottom. Don't fill out the form; that is only for scoring a full rack on a deer.

MATCHING SETS

Score each antler separately as shown above, and add the two together for the total score.

SPIKES

For this contest, and I don't believe this goes by B&C, but for SPIKE sheds only, measure the length of the spike and one circumference measurement directly above the burr ONLY. Add these two measurements together for the score - hopefully this will keep it less confusing. This is obviously only for the "smallest shed" category.

All right I have tweaked the rules on scoring matching sets... just add the score of each antler together, no spread measurements.

It was an awesome spot you had but I don't think you can find enough sheds on 5 acres to win.... Lol.... You can't enter anyway cause I called dibs on the place across the street!

Im gonna throw this call in for the winner (whoever finds the largest grossing shed portion) of the contest. Tried to sell it for a couple days and no interest, so here ya go.

Around a 70 dollar value if you purchased it new.

Catman, maybe u can add this to the official thread after the signups are over

I can build a custom bamboo tube call with "shed head 2013" engraved on the side to add to the prize, but I don't know if many people know or care how to use a tube call. It is the first call I learned to make turkey sounds with, but not a lot of people know how to use em... if anyone is interested, let me know, I might throw one in just for the heck of it.

I think that is a great idea catman, it really doesn't matter what it is if it is a recognition of effort and accomplishment. It would be awesome to have it on the gun case or on a shelf in the man cave! I thought about buying a trophy with a shed on top and engraved with Shed Head 2013 Champion? Let me see if I can put one together!

Maybe something like this? With the winners name and "Shed Head 2013" I will order it and the winner can figure out how we get it to them?

Id say also that you have to take a pic of the shed for the contest but do we have to score them all or just if you think they are going to win biggest/smallest

Id say also that you have to take a pic of the shed for the contest but do we have to score them all or just if you think they are going to win biggest/smallest

score the ones u want to enter for large/small, rest dont matter

So just a thought...what if you find the biggest winning matching set and no one else in the competition found a solo shed that scores higher than either side of the biggest winning matching set? Can that matching set win both categories or would the matching pair only be allowed in the matching set category?

My thoughts are that you win largest gross and largest match

What if you find one that is not from this past season, or is chewed up?

You can only score whats there... I wouldn't think it matters if its been chewed on from this year or last..

you would win both categories

a shed is a shed. Measure it like you always would, if part is chewed measure around it or if a tine is chewed shorter just measure that length.

It didnt say for sure in the pic if it was a fenced deer or not, but the way they talked about it led me to believe it was.

even if it was fenced there are usually several hundred or thousand acres inside... Still a good pair of eyes or pure luck.... Think if its right on a dirt deer trail it wouldn't be so camouflaged so you could possibly find it easily just have to be in the right spot... Still pure luck!

I lose half my nickel plated 32-20 cases when I shoot in the woods - and they are shiny. Finding spike antlers rates as a miracle! \:\)

Count me in Catman. I have never found a shed but got a few friends going with me this year that have more experience.

Yall get ready... tonight at midnight I will start the entry thread. Any shed found tomorrow through may 12 is fair game! You won't have to measure unless you think it will win biggest or smallest category, but you do have to post a pic for it to count.
