I just happened to glance at a bat a little while back in Dicks Sporting Goods. I was shocked at the price. I had no idea a kids bat could cost so much!

I have used a lot of bats playing and coaching, Louisville Slugger's are hard to beat.
Stik I agree with you. The 16 year old select team I coach, played in a wood bat tournament last year and it was comical. My brother and I grew up using wood bats. I am 51 and he is 49. We could out hit the 16 year olds with wood in practice. Embarrassed those little brats real good.

It has been my expirience that unless your kid has exceptional skills, caoching, and is playing serious Travel Ball, spending a couple of hundred on a bat is a waste of money. Every kid on the team will use it, he's going to grow out of it in a year anyway, if it doesn't get stolen.

it has little to do with the crack of the bat. somebody is going to get killed. no way would i allow my kid to pitch if aluminum bats are used and seriously doubt i would want them playing any infield position.

When i was in high school we always entered a wood bat tourney. I love playing with wooden bats.
The new aluminum bats they make now have a smaller sweet spot.

I just happened to glance at a bat a little while back in Dicks Sporting Goods. I was shocked at the price. I had no idea a kids bat could cost so much! Sports equipment in general is expensive. Every time I turn around one of my kids "needs" something else.
Bought my son a new bat last year and was the first time I spent money on a bat. Definitely a difference in the cheapos and you have to be careful with everybody wanting to use it. Not to be selfish but I've seen some kids who are clueless beating the concrete in the dugout with it or banging it into the other bats.

that's another of my peeves with aluminum bats. an inside pitch that saws off a wooden bat is a double in the corner with an aluminum. it takes the strategy out of the game.

Heading to Atlanta next week to get my son a new bat. He plays 80-100 games s year and cries on days like today when they have to hit indoors. He wears a baseball bat out in short order. He will hit some bombs this year on those 200 foot fields. But as a pitcher it scares me to death every time he's on the mound.

Easton imo makes the best bat on the market. but its all about what the player thinks. the demareni is a good bat just never liked it. if he likes his Easton then id get him another.

Bombat, Demarini, Easton.
I'd recommend craigslist. Most bats won't lose pop. If you ever go composite, it takes a slew of pitches at 55 mph just to break it in. Most important thing is not to get one too heavy or your child will develop bad habits in his swing.
