I think it was Alice Cooper who said that if you're going to the rock stars for political advice, you're more screwed up than the rock star. Makes sense to me.
Like Andy W, I hate it when certain musicians/singers get on their political soapbox. Like Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. I love their music, but when he starts talking politics, that turns me off. I usually skip to the next song.
