Anyone here have their windows tinted past the legal limit? Do you get any trouble for it?

In North Carolina, that was part of the state inspection. My windows were too dark to pass and I had to take my car to a "friend" to get my inspection passed. (I no longer have that vehicle)

My windows are currently the factory tint. I would like to go just a little beyond the legal limit - nothing extremely dark. Mainly because my truck doesn't fit in the garage and it sits in the sun all day. With black interior, it gets really hot in the summer.

About one third of the vehicles on the road are darker than the legal limit.

I wish I had mine darker than legal. It used to be 20% and was much better than the current 35%.

I had 20% on my last vehicle and loved it. Didn't realize how much I liked it until I got rid of it. Best thing is, the guy did it for $60 cash. He used the 3M tint (good stuff) and did an excellent job. He also helped me out when inspection time came. \:\)

Was curious if any decent places around here would even do 20% since it's past the legal limit.

Both my sons have their windows tinted. Don't know the #, but both are well beyond the legal limit. My oldest son just got a $300+ ticket in north Mississippi. No warning whatsoever. The youngest has received a warning, but that was in tennessee.

My last two rides have been and my new one is about to be. Not sure how dark I will go this time,my old eyes don't like it at night but my arse loves it on hot summer days.
I think most will do it, mine always makes me sign a waiver.

A law past in Nashville on the 1st of the year that it is illegal too have anything above 35% all the way including extended cab and rear windows. So I just had my tint guy date it for last November on the receipt. If you just ask most will do it for you.

Isn't most factory tint on the rear darker than that?

I got windows so dark you need a flash light to see me. Ok,ok, so I broke out the old school rap. But yes, 5 percent on all windows except my drivers side and then 4inch vinyl on top of front window. No problems, well except backing up at night.

Just so I'm clear 20% used to be legal and then they changed it to 35%. My back doors and back glass on my truck are factory tinted glass so I just matched the front. Next time I'll tint the back ones too and put 20% on the front. Places will do it if you pay cash and no receipt.

My wife had one of her vehicles tinted. I hated it! During the day, it was'nt too bad, it cut down on the glare. But I really hated it at night, I could'nt see well.

My truck has the standard factory tint. I can always wear sunglasses if I need to.

Nyper - I ordered the best 3m had for my wife's car. Pre cut from ebay. It was extremely easy to put on and took 80% of the headache away from having to fit and cut.

Just a warning / my 2 cents / our experience:

5 yrs ago this May my son was a passenger in a MVA with another kid who had what I believe was 5%, may have been 15%, on his side windows. The kid driving doesnt know why he pulled out in front of an 18-wheeler on my sons side, says he never saw it. My "guess", it was just before dark, window tint was so dark he just didnt see it in time pulling accross a median on the 4 lane highway.

Anyhow, for what it's worth, tint can have some serious disadvantages when too dark.

I live in west tn and in our little towns around here they are very strict on dark tint. They say its a safety factor for the officers. I used to run dark tint but at night you would have to crack your window to see to pull out or back up. Needless to say I dont run dark anymore.

That's not true about the rear windows they can be as dark as you want them. Factory tint is 20 percent. Like said before be careful at night it takes some getting used to.

Any fixed window that does not roll down can have whatever % tint on it. Windows that roll down legal limit is 35%.
I have factory tint on the back of my extended cab truck and put 5% on top of that. Front windows have 20% on them.. Never had any issues with mine.
