I have been doing a little clearing around my place and cut out some of the cedar i have. I know that i could make 100-200 cedar fence posts, at least I think i can.

I was wondering what they would be worth if i cut them down to say 6-8 foot lengths. a lot of it is 5-8 inch diameter.

would it be worth it to cut them down and sell them as posts? If not I will probalby burn them.

Depends on the amount of heart. You might as well use sweetgum if there is not much heart. I would'nt cut'em any shorter than 8'. Its better to cut'em too long than not long enough.

Last year I stopped by the local mill and he had a few hundred cedar post. Said the 8 ft 6-10in round post were $5-8 each. May be a little high, but that's what he was asking.

Man I'm in the same boat as you.. I have probably 100 or more of them and have probably 20 trees that are 12-20 inches diameter and you could get 14-20ft post easily out of them.. Wondering if I should cut them and stack them to sell also or find somebody who wants to come cut them and by them.. Wonder if the local Amish/Mennonite would be Intrested.

If they have good heart you should have no trouble selling them. At least you wouldn't around here.

I bet the Mennonites could make some cool stuff out of them.
