I started deer hunting in West Tn in 1961 or 1962. Natchez Trace or bounding land in Carroll county. Best hunts was over at Big Sandy. I think I remember hunts started in the 50's in West Tn.

I remember getting drawn for a either sex hunt at Natchez Trace in 1976 and that was special. Very few wma had either sex hunts back then. Stik is right if you hunted in ET you hunted a wma. Seems like Hawkins was the first ET county that I remember hearing about outside a wma.

I remember 'Sunday driving' after church in the Harmon Creek and Big Sandy areas in Benton County in hopes of seeing a deer.
I also remember going spotlighting the last year it wasn't illegal. I was probably 5...maybe 6. Looking back on that, whether it was legal or not, driving around the countryside at night shining fields that belonged to someone else was downright stupid.

Killed my first buck in 81 at Big Hatchie/Chaney. A 3 1/2 legged 3 3/4" spike. One of the happiest days of my life.

I do remember driving down to the courthouse here in Hawkins county to apply for a doe permit. Seems like there were only 50 permits or so. There were hundreds of us there to try for the permit. All of the area sportsmans clubs were protesting that killing does would harm the herd. The courthouse had a drawing while you were there and announced the winners.
I also remember hunting at Natchez Trace on drawn hunts like WGK mentioned back in the 70's. That was the only WMA I can remember that had doe hunts.
