Don't have an answer for you ut, but I can recommend getting a tankless gas hw heater tho. I've had one for about 7 yrs now and they're great...no pilot to worry about b/c it's electronic ignition.

Some possibilities: Where are they located? If in a small enclosed room, they could be starving for oxygen. If so cut a vent in a door so it can draw air from other areas
May want to call gas company and check incoming pressure. Should be around 7" of water column

Same thing happened to me. At the bottom of the heater (on mine) there is a vent opening that allows combustion air. Sometimes dust will build up and block it. There is another vent in the rear as well. My heater would go out everyday and before I took a shower, I would have to relight it and get the heater burning. I had no idea what was going on. Local gas company came out and showed me the problem.

People can gusse at it all day and that is all it will be is gusses. Get somebody who knows about such to look at the problem. I could tell you 10 different things it could be and it would still be the 11th, unless I am there to see what it is.
