Ruth's chris is out I can get it in alot of other places, I was wanting places I have not been before seeing as it's Memphis. I never heard of that Texas de brazil so I don't know for sure where another one is so It's a maybe.
Definitely on the list:
Central BBQ
Gus's chicken
that Veit Hoa market is a maybe

What is Payne's? It's a maybe

I'll be staying at the comfort inn downtown so I'll try to hit those in that area, I may wonder around some seeing as I'll be free after 3 everyday.

I'll have to update after next week and give you my list and reviews..I am a certified BBQ judge after all! even if it is Kansas City BBQ Society judging

Cool. Payne's is in Midtown, bordering the ghetto, maybe a little intimidating looking to a non Memphian, but its a cool place. Its definitely worth hitting for a BBQ aficionado because it is a little different from most of the other Memphis BBQ.

Do The Arcade for breakfast. Its where Elvis used to eat. Ernestine and Hazels should be on your hit list as well. Its a good way to wrap up an evening -beer and a soul burger.... and they are open late.

Are you looking for dinner-only, or lunch as well?

Here's a proposed dinner itinerary for downtown only:

1) Central BBQ
2) Itta Bena
3) South of Beale
4) Local Gastropub
5) Rizzo's Diner

These places are all high-moderately priced....$15-$20 entrees, but highly acclaimed.

For drinks & fun, definitely try Ernestine & Hazels, Flying Saucer, and maybe BB King's blues club. But the Beale Street Development Corp. has pretty much ruined the "local blues" flavor of Beale Street, in favor of the disposable income, RedBull & Vodka hip-hop crowd. I used to just walk the street listening to the street bands play, never paying a dime in cover charge. It's just not that way anymore.

Lots of beer choices (and VERY short skirts) at the Saucer.

Truly some beautiful women that work there, but in all the times my lil rock band has played there the only women patrons Ive seen there were the ones that follow us around to every gig...which led us to rename the place the Flying Sausage....

Yeah, but the skirts make it fun....especially if you're just "browsing". It's especially nice when they open the big bay windows and you can people watch all the folks on the sidewalk.

Or you could just go to Buckwild's house. He fries up fish as good as any I've ever had. ;\)

Dinner only. Supposed to have lunches catered in. If they are no good I may try to sneak out and catch lunch somewhere

Poser/TAFKAP - have you eaten at Central BBQ downtown? Reason I ask is I have twice, and was not impressed either time. The first time was at 4PM so I chalked it up as I visited at non-peak hours, thus maybe the cause for the so-so food. Then just two weeks ago I hit it again at lunch with a good friend and it was less desirable than the first visit. The BBQ was dry and the buns were not fresh, but not totally stale either, sort of dry if you will. The greens were ok. I am not sure if this is just another example of "Andy luck" or what, but I've made up my mind that if I want Central BBQ, I'm heading to Central Avenue. Just thought I'd share this with you two and get your opinion.
