Thanks I'll have to try those places. Yes work is paying so I'll definitly give those a try. I'm staying somewhere downtown, I'll book it tomorrow at work. I think somewhere on front street. I'll have to check tomorrow for sure
These three are on Monroe and should be close to your motel. McEwen's Felicia Suzannes Little Tea Shop
For seafood or Italian a short trolley ride south will bring you to Spindini and Pearl's Oyster Bar

I forgot to mention Earnestine and Hazels downtown. Their Soulburger is awesome, and what could be better than eating burgers and fries in an old brothel?

Work paying for the meals? If so, eat at Texas de Brazil downtown. Pricey but amazing. Very good food.
For the money, eat at Restaurant Iris.
I really like the man-trough style of TdB, but for a really unique food experience, TdB doesn't hold a candle to some of the local "chef-run" restaurants.

Another vote for Central BBQ...get the ribs or brisket and banana pudding.
And turnip greens, homemade chips, and homemade pork rinds.
Central is my absolute favorite.

Yeah, and Texas de Brazil is a chain, which means you can eat at it in many cities with no experience unique to Memphis. Ruth Chri's is also very good, but same thing. You're in one of American's top 10 food cities, I would highly recommend taking advantage of the the places that are entirely unique experiences to Memphis.
Rules of eating BBQ:
1. If you don't see smoke coming out of the building, don't eat there. Seriously... stop, look and smell.
2. Just because the place won some BBQ award at a BBQ competition (and has a plaque on the front of the building) does not mean that BBQ is necessarily the same as what they are serving in the restaurant.

alright thanks. Ruth's chris is out I can get it in alot of other places, I was wanting places I have not been before seeing as it's Memphis. I never heard of that Texas de brazil so I don't know for sure where another one is so It's a maybe. Definitely on the list: Central BBQ Gus's chicken that Veit Hoa market is a maybe
What is Payne's? It's a maybe
I'll be staying at the comfort inn downtown so I'll try to hit those in that area, I may wonder around some seeing as I'll be free after 3 everyday.
I'll have to update after next week and give you my list and reviews..I am a certified BBQ judge after all! even if it is Kansas City BBQ Society judging
