I've been applying for years and I just found out that I was finally drawn this year for the Quota Hunt on Reelfoot NWR Long Point Unit on April 5-7. I've never turkey hunted there so any information or advice anyone could PM me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can't help you on the turkeys, but I've spent a lot of time on that refuge in times past. I've seen more large cottonmouths there than anywhere else on or near Reelfoot Lake. Weren't many turkeys in the area when I was last there, and from what I understand, poaching (deer & turkeys) has been pretty bad on that particular refuge.

Over the past 5 years, haven't really spent much time there, other than occasionally driving around a little to photograph wildlife. It is a unique place, with lots of waterfowl and birds. Walked around there a little last fall. Let me put it this way: It would be very convenient for me to turkey hunt there, but I didn't apply for the quota hunt.
I used to do quite a bit of squirrel and archery deer hunting on and around the refuge for many years. Can count on one hand the turkeys I saw there. But like said, haven't spent much time there over the past 5 years, and it's possible the place is now full of turkeys. All I know for sure is it's full of mammoth cottonmouths. Wear some snake boots and you should be fine.

Hip boots would be better after recent rains. The access road along the Bayou Du Chien is a good place to start.

Better be wearing some tall snake boots. Hip boots would be better after recent rains. The access road along the Bayou Du Chien is a good place to start. Since all the roads are on the higher ground, all are good places to be looking. For sure, the turkeys are going to head for dry ground and not hang in the flooded areas.
Regarding hip boots, I often wear rubber snake boots on top of stocking-foot hip boots or waders. The water will come into the boots, making them heavier, but you're feet will stay dry. Still unnerving to be in knee deep water, then notice a big cottonmouth on a cypress root a couple feet away at waist level! Always walk by those big cypress trees keeping a distance of at least 3 feet as they are a magnet for moccasins in the slash water.
