I have never killed a turkey because I am always fishing during turkey season. But, this year I have decided to kill a turkey (or at least try very hard). When I have been fishing, I always heard lots of gobbleing up on the ridges above me. Can I get out of the boat, hide, and call the turkeys down the ridge or do I need to move up level with them?
Bear with me as I know nothing about turkey hunting. I will probably be on here asking more questions as the season gets near.

I would think as long as you set up by a nice finger ridge where they can cheat down you'd be fine. The trick is trying to get that gobbler to care about your calling when he already has 5 hens at the top of the ridge lol

From my limited experience they will often fly down uphill to the top of the ridge... I wouldn't set up downhill of a rooster bird unless I knew they flew downhill from past observations. Good luck I hope you kill one

Calling one DOWNHILL is a feet few have accomplished. Get level or above them if you can.
It's not impossible but it's not the best odds

A general rule of thumb is that it's easier to call a bird uphill off roost than downhill. I've seen them pitch both ways but if I could I'd like to be on the ridgeside or a flat above them before they come off the roost.
Make sure you can legally hunt the land first.

Calling one DOWNHILL is a feet few have accomplished. IN before some of the resident pros tell you they do it ALL the time. Sometimes, on purpose, just to add difficulty to the hunt so it's not so easy it's boring!

I agree, get level or above them if possible, if not then call from wherever you can... they will come down hill, just like they will cross fences and creeks. It's just best to put as many of the odds as you can in your favor, so avoid as many obstacles as possible between the two of you.
