I remember when Leapin' Lanny Poffo wrestled at my high school and did back flips all the way across the football field. I think he later went on to the WWF as "The Genius"

He may not have many appearances in the south, but I'm sure most of you remember George "The Animal" Steele (his real name is Jim Myers). He was a gym teacher at my high school and the football and wrestling team coach, and is a member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. Although you couldn't tell it from his wrestling persona, he was a very articulate man with Bachelors and Masters degrees (other than he had a pretty bad lisp from biting off the end of his tongue during a match in his early wrestling days).

He was a strong man - I saw him pick a 250 pound offensive lineman off the ground by the facemask with one hand while giving him a little one-on-one in your face instruction (as you might imagine, there were not any discipline problems on our teams!). The guy that was in the heavyweight class on our wrestling team was state champion for 3 straight years, and Coach Myers would wrestle him to teach us different moves and I think to also keep him humble, as Coach would throw him around like a rag doll on the mat.

Macho Man Randy Savage, that was one scary dude, he use to work out at the same gym that I was a member of, and it was nothing for him to throw the bar bells across the room,or kick holes in the walls.

Went to many of the Monday nights at the coliseum, was more of going to watch one older black lady than anything eles, she would get out of her seat and swing her cain at eveybody and cuss them all, she had to be atleast 70 then.
Was a lot of fun
Also, I umpired several of Jerry Lawlers softball games, they were all pretty good guys out on the field. Who would think that on Monday night they were tearing each others heads off then on Monday they were all on the same team,
