Have had a couple of people PM me about rabbit hunting. I have rabbits but most say they can put a group together. A group is anywhere from 2 to 30. Would like to get some dogs on the bunnies but I would want me and my 2 boys to be in on it not just by-standers. Is it all right for me to feel this way?

I go on one big rabbit hunt a year in south Georgia. Might be 10-15 people on Saturday but everyone is experienced hunters.
Never around here do I even think about going with more than 5/6 and I've got to where if I don't know you then your chances of hunting with me are slim.
I just about broke my 1100 over a boy's head in Lawrence Co two years ago for jump shooting. I was nice the first time and the second time I wasn't. I simply called my dogs out of the pack and went to the truck.
I hate to be that way but most folks don't realize how much time and money is put into these dogs and years of breeding to get them where they are. When I had deer dogs and went rabbit hunting, I always felt it as a priviledge to get to hunt over someone's rabbit hounds and acted that way. Now I understand why the guys that were nice enough to invite me back then were like they were.
I tell people after that incident two years ago, if you jump shoot I won't even say a word to you. You'll just see me head to the truck with my dogs following. Same goes for shooting anything but a rabbit, especially when the dogs aren't running. I can handle the occassional squirrel killing if a rabbit is up but to be honest, I haven't seen that happen in a long while.

I hunt with several really good beaglers. Most hunt with four dogs. I have property like you that they hunt and I join in. Generally, most guys who have dogs have a hunting budy that goes. I like to hunt with two owners with a total of eight dogs and 5 or 6 of us hunting. Sometimes you can have a couple of chases going at one time...now that's a lot of fun! We have places for cottontails; looking for swamp rabbits before the season is over.

explain : jump shooting ? I havent hunted with beagles in years.. Its where you shoot the rabbit as soon as it jumps up and not giving the dogs a chance to run it.I just have one beagle, and am hunting by myself 90% of the time, and I jump shoot them when ever I get the chance. Some people get down right angry over it.Their dogs their rules.
