Coyotes are extremely hard to call imo.. I have been doing it for years and have called in a few but probably 9 times out of ten..struck out.. when the call comes on they go into full awareness mode.. everything has to be perfect.. espically you not having any scent or movement.. years ago i read a oldtimers story on coyote hunting.. he said. you have to sneak to your stand like a bunch of apaches were trying to find you.. you really cant drive in on a 4 wheeler..start calling and expect to kill one.. keep at it.. sooner or later you will get one...

I called one in using an electronic call last weekend. It was my first time and we were there about 45 minutes.. my friend wanted to change locations but it was cold and getting clsoe to dark so I stayed put. After hitting the rabbit in distress a few times one popped out.. it is possible just may take persistence!

Well not being there and seeing the property or observing the method used it would just be a guess to what could be happening. Yotes can cover vast ranges at times and maybe they just are not there when you are. Plus they will try to get downwind of you at times if possible and check it out. I try to put myself where there is little possibility of them circling but sometimes hard to do depending on wind. Also I do not like hunting them in woods or thick cover.....I want to have as much viewing area as possible. I have had them come hard and then just sit or lay down hundreds of yards out just analizing the area cause they did not like something. I have killed them out beyond 400 yds and have had them almost in my lap . I would say a good average of sucess is maybe 1 out of 12 sets. I have been when almost every set produced and then I have been days at a time with no results. A lot of times even though you dont see them they have seen you and you just did not know it. I personally like using mouth calls rather than electronic . The electronics sound so generic where with the mouth calls you can vary your techniques and they give you more vocal flexibility IMO. Especially if calling yotes that have been called b4. Just that little bit of variance in the call can be what triggers them to approach if nothing else to see what is happening. I have a foxpro but I only use the motion portion of the decoy attached to it. I have the sound off and call only by mouth. You just have to keep at it . It will happen one day but you better be ready cause it can be there and gone in an instant. Good Luck To you.

To add to Mrutvol , if you can't play the wind try to have your down wind in the opening of the field, that way if he does circle he will have to show himself if he is to get downwind! And +1 on the mouth calls, as much as I like foxpro calls my hand calls will out produce!

I love my hand calls but really love my foxpro. It for sure makes my average alot higher. But i think its because I suck at coyote hunting and with the fopro a ways out from me i get busted alot less. As far as sound there is no comparison between cheap foxpro and higher ones. My fury still isnt a hand call but a ton better than a wildfire or spitfire.
