Took just two dogs out this past week for a short afternoon hunt. Had a veteran female named Fancy and a first yr pup we call Whitey. Were able to get a couple kill shots on video and I demo how to "push gut a rabbit" in the field - no knife needed!

Why don't you let your dogs eat the guts? My beagle lives for the guts and head..It hasn't seemed to have any ill effects on her or her hunting abilities. And she won't eat one either if she gets to it before I do.

I let mine eat guts some but my Dad and our long time hunting partner gets mad over it lol Because of worms in the guts, I have seen plenty of them crawl out.

Personal preference for the guts. I don't. As one vet told me once (that had beagles also), "nothing good comes from it"

I hunt with a number of beaglers and none of them like their dogs to eat the guts. Some say it was because of worms, others because it would fill the dogs up and slow them down. By the way, I love getting the blasts from our-southern-roots.com!

Sry for the delayed reply - but the main reason I don't let them eat the guts is b/c of potential worms. I do worm my dogs on a reg. basis, but they get a well balanced diet in the kennel and I don't see any benefit to feeding the guts in the field. I would be less concerned w/ feeding the liver.

That being said, if you like to do it and haven't had problems w/ it, then I got no problem w/ u doing it!

I have one fairly small framed beagle that is prone to catch and eat rabbits before I can get to them. The prob. I have is if she eats half a rabbit or more, she is done for the day as she looks pregnant and bloated. And I need her hunting not walking around looking like she just ate a Thanksgiving feast.

Thx Gut Bucket!

Years ago, I hunted a spot and we had a deer stand we called "The Gut Bucket!"
