id have to disagree with that, don't get me wrong Dixie chopper makes a great mower, but they don't cut near as good as any ive stated above especially scag with the new velocity deck, jonh deere and exmark both make awesome cutting machines also. and the new scag cheetah is the fastest mower on market as of now. and the cub cadet will brake in a couple years... im not recommending a commercial mower for him but all I stated above make home owners additons that a good price and well built. they all make them off their commercial mowers just a little different materials. to my knowledge Dixie chopper doesn't make one of those... and the price range of a commercial mower compared to a home owners is about 3- 4 grand depending what you go with. if you really wanna spend the money and not worry for a mower in a long long time then I would highly recommend a scag turf tiger also great mowers are the new exmark x series or the john deere 900 series or the hustler super z and if you really wanna spend money the Kubota zd series. but I think you'll be just fine with a home owners edition and itll last for a good while.

right now I have a hustler and I can mow 6 acres in 3 and a half hours and that weed eating edging and blowing everything off the road and side walk and drive way.. but I am about to up grade to a scag turf tiger.

I use to own a commercial lawn care business. I lined several mowers up side by side and tried them out. A Dixie Chopper cut the best of all I tried in pure grass cutting. I did not try a Scag. In the line up were Exmark, JD, Grasshopper, Snapper, Kubota, and Hustler... also the yellow mower that JD makes by another name but I can't think of it right now. I think they may be out of business.
Cutting power they all were behind the Dixie. A finishing cut the Exmark was first. It handled uneven ground better than the Dixie did and got a slight edge in looks due to that... but nothing could handle the thicker grass any better.
All these were commercial mowers... not a home owner version. If you cut your grass every week and want one that will last then I wouldn't go with anything less. Sure you're going to pay more but in the long wrong it's gonna save you TIME and MONEY!
Now take into consideration that this was about 6 years ago. Things may have changed... but at that time no one could cut grass as good as Dixie.

Ill agree with that but i cut commercially now amd it seems like the dixies are falling behind. But still great mowers. Scag is out front by a long shot imo. With kubota sd and exmark behind them. But mowers are like cars and guns not to many people agree on which is better and which is worse its all about that persons opinion.And ill agree i think anyone that cuts 2 plus acres should get a commercial but the home owners edition aren't bad and will save him money. I was just trying to save him a buck. But i think in the long run a commercial will save him money its an investment imo

Many mowers have a engine that is undersized for the deck. A 50" mower with a 24HP motor will cut better and last longer than a 60" mower with the same 24HP motor.
I cut 2 acres with my 50" Dixie Chopper in a little over a hour.A commercial mower has a heavier framed and welded deck. A cheaper residential mower uses a lower gauge steel and a stamped deck.
Dixie Chopper,Bad Boyz,Kubota,and exmark all make good commercial mowers. Like cars look for a good deal on last years models.

Do NOT buy a "Residential" mower. They are quite literally designed to last about 2 seasons.
Even a used commercial mower will be a better option. For a homeowner who keeps it clean and maintained, a commercial mower will last them practically forever.
And do not be fooled into thinking all zero turn mowers are commercial grade - they are not. The residential zero turns get smaller motors, stamped steel decks, and weaker/slower hydro drive pumps.
Yes, you will pay more for a commercial mower, but you won't be buying another one in 2 summers like you will with most residential mowers.
Go commercial - you will be happier.

I'd go with Scag or Kubota. I've run a Kubota ZD for about 5 years with no issues.

check out the Bad Boyz zero turn mowers at Tractor Supply. I mow about 5 acres. had mine for 6 years it is built like a tank only thing I have done to mine is shapen the blades change the oil and a new battery. Its a real value.
X2 have the same mower. Cut 7.5 acres and this thing Flat out gets it.
