I have an opportunity to get a lot of small whips for a pretty good price. Apples and pears for $2 to $3 and plums for $1.50 a piece. All grafted bare root and only 18-24 inches tall. Does this seem like a good deal?

That would be about 40-50 grafted fruit trees for under $100.

Sounds like a good deal to me for sure. I have planted primarily larger established trees, but that's not bad at all for a potentially 2 ft tree.

yep, as long as it's the tree types you want... I've personally done a lot better when letting the little ones have a good year in a 3-5 gallon bucket all growing season than planting them the falling dormant season when their 4 to 6 foot and established...

I'm looking at getting some winesap and ark black apples, kieffer pears, some various plum, and some tamopan persimmon.

That'll do just fine. May want to do some reading on training young whips like that for more horizontal limbs especially on the apple.

I would do this to them. Give them another year under a close eye and plant them next winter.

Price wise, I think it sounds like a great deal.
