Hi all, I was wondering if there were any online resources that show National Forest access via fire trails/old logging roads, etc? I know there is at least one gated road like this on 107 between Jonesborough and Greenville, but was wondering if there were a list of these anywhere on a map.
I assume these access points are usually the safest to avoid running across someone's private land?

Your local ranger station should have maps available showing all trails and roads. Check with them.

I called the lady in the greeneville office prolly 3 months ago and asked where i could find or purchase maps with access points or property boundaries and this was her response...
"There are no maps available that can be downloaded or purchased."
Knowing that this is not true... I replied, "so there are no maps that exist?? how do i avoid getting a ticket or straying on to someone elses land."
Her reply, "Find a forest service gate, park your truck, go hunting, and your good to go."
I just laughed and said, sure lady.

Haha, ok. I am going to go over to Erwin next week and try that one and see what kind of info I get there. Hopefully it will be better than Greeneville.

You can get maps of Cherokee at your local bookstore or outdoors store but if you go to the ranger station they have highly detailed topo maps. They cost a little more but well worth it.

Yea i dont know, I didnt catch her name. I was a little peeved at her response, but I didnt give her a hard time.
Quite often, receptionists at places like this are kinda clueless about what really happens and where to find stuff on a place as big as the cherokee.
miller1 id be interested to hear what u find out in Erwin.

Will let you know. Going to try and make two trips in one when the weather permits. Need to go over to the Scioto range and get my new muzzleloader lined up before heading to Georgia later this month on a hog hunt.

There's quite few access roads on 107 from Unicoi to the NC Line.
