I hear all the talk about switching remington mz's and Encores to smokeless mz's. What are the steps in doing that? Dont think ill do it, or maybe one day i will i dunno? But just curious how in the world its done. I guess i could read up on it just hadnt ever took time to do it.

If i had a Encore id buy the 45/70 barrel & have the conversion to put a plug in it,on the rem I think the barrel has to be changed.I have kinda been looking for a used 45/70 handi or nef rifle to have it done but don't let my wife find out lol

To do a Remington ML you have to replace the barrel with a Pac-Nor or McGowan barrel that has been drilled and tapped for a breech plug. A new recoil lug is also recommended as well. To do an Encore or H&R Handi rifle you need to have a 45-70 barrel drilled and tapped for a breech plug. Most use Savage ML-II breech plugs but there are a couple custom breech plugs available from different companies.

You can also buy a dedicated smokeless mz barrel for the encore.

I now have that barrel. Super impressed, see my thread below about shooting it.
