I saw a roadkill mature 8 pt while driving east on Int. 40, leaving Memphis yesterday. He was lying in the median between mile marker 26 & 27. What a shame for the folks that hunt the lands near there.

I apologize for the earlier incompete post. I know deer are killed along roads almost everyday. I hit send before finishing my thought.
I wondered if I could have taken the rack? It was a shame to see a huge rack go to waste.
I assume the answer is no as the deer was lying in the center of the median, which is a dangerous place along an interstate.

I don;t know what the law says, but i'm pretty sure with a call to TWRA you could take the antlers with their permission. It does seem though that that situation becomes sticky when there is a set of big antlers involved. Seems like if it is a doe or small buck, "just take it" is the mentality, but once big antlers enter the equation, "you need to have a tag, etc." enters the conversation.
IMO if it is killed by a car it "should" be up for grabs.

A friend claimed a roadkill earlier this year. He called twra and they got him in touch with the local game warden who issued him a tag number. He carried it to a taxi for a euro mount.

I saw a 3.5 yr old 8 point yesterday while heading to our property. His back leg was broken and you could see where someone cut his throat. When we drove back by several hours later somebody had cut his rack off.

I've seen deer with their entire heads cut off, just below the area where the skull and neck meet. Now that's wanting a rack pretty bad.

Yeah but thats the easiest way to get the rack off in a hurry. Keep in mind, you dont want people driving by at 70 watching you go to town with a hacksaw. You can do this with a good filet knife.
