Seems like I'm going to get to go to fl next month to see an old friend who recently moved down, we want to do some fishing but undecided. Don't know crap about saltwater fishing or that area, if its on this time of year or not, etc....
Will be in the ft Myers area. Thought about trying to get a guide or rental boat on okeechobee and bass fish, or should I try and find a deep sea guide.
Just want the best bang for the buck, and figured while I'm that close to okeechobee it might be a better bet. Who knows.... Decisions, decisions!

Deep sea guides are not that high in South Florida. Compared to the gulf.

Thats kind of what i was beginning to get at too stik. Thinking even though may catch a bigger bass or more than usual, bass fishing still is bass fishing. Why not do something different.... id be in it for around the same amount of money anyway..

I think it should be prime time for sailfish off of Ft. Myers.

The Bass on the big o will be in spawn and post spawn next month. If you have never fished it I would get a guide for sure. There is a ton of water down there. But you have a good chance at catching a 10+ pound fish.
Really wish I could get back down there. The bass fishing should be getting pretty hot right now.

This link is to a crew I have fished with hundreds of times. They're knowledgeable fun fisherman. They're also on facebook. It's a husband and wife team. The husband has been guiding unofficially since he was about twelve and knows the waters around FT Myers better than anyone I've ever heard of.
I'm not sure what the best bite would be in February, but if you get in touch I'm sure they'd give you an honest answer.
Good luck, and have a great trip.
