Most of my turkey hunting is done today with a 24" barrel.

Mostly a matter of personal preference.
Generally speaking, the longer the barrel, the more uniform the patterns.

Shorter barrels can be more practical to carry in the field and may give a slight advantage to not being seen. Shorter barrels can also be more practical should you hunt from a blind.

One other thing, a single-shot or side-by-side with a 26" barrel will have an overall gun length less than a pump/automatic with a 24" barrel. I have a side-by-side with 28" barrels with which I've killed many turkeys over the years. That gun is almost the same exact length to my "dedicated" turkey gun with it's 24" barrel. If I hadn't wanted to go to an optical sight, I'd probably still be turkey hunting with that side-by-side, and think both special turkey guns and shells may be the most overrated aspect of turkey hunting today.

Many years before I'd ever heard of a specialized "turkey" gun, I stumbled across a really nice double gun that was factory bored "extra full & full". This was also before choke tubes became popular. That gun was originally purchased more to be a "go to" squirrel gun, but doubled as as excellent turkey gun. Never mind it was lightweight and only had 2 3/4" chambers, the turkeys never knew the difference. And I never knew I was supposed to be using a 3 1/2" magnum to kill 'em deader. \:\)

Mine's 20" but it's just a dedicated turkey gun. It's a solid 50 yard gun with Hevi Shot.
