Thats crazy. Sad to think thats a pretty good population of bucks in one area that was wiped out. Hope they figure something out

That's something most of us will never see in the wild ever in our lifetimes! I most certainly hope so.
Seems that if they are going to make pond liners like that, they should have a special edge with strips of tread, for human or animal alike. At minimum, a couple of treaded strips/planks in a couple of spots around the pond.
Ugly, ugly stuff.

Glad to hear they do not think it is EHD.
I guess there is no way we will ever know the whole story, but like Outdoor Crazy said, that is a whole population of bucks wiped out. Very said.

Those ponds are very dangerous since they do drop almost straight down and with a little algea they get even slicker. Maybe its just me..but from the pictures.. I dont see a "straight down bank" anywhere.. looks like your standing on the edge of a normal sloped bulldozer dug pond?? If you can walk down there and drag them out.. why could they have not walked out? thanks!

I'm probably going to go poke it with a long stick and see if I can feel how steep the slope is under water.

I live in the neighborhood right past where these deer were found. I saw all the bucks alive around New Years(Had to stop and let them cross Liberty Pike). All deer looked in great shape. I thought it looked like deer floating in there but did not stop, first saw it last week.
After reading through all these replys, my take is somehow they were poisoned. Columbia State Community college is building a new campus on that site, they started site work the last couple of weeks. I wonder if they could have gotten into something.
FWIW on those ponds, my kids have played around them and I watched them get built, there is enough traction and foliage around them to help the deer get out. Deer are tough creatures and those ponds have been there for a few years and those are the first deer I have seen or heard about in there.

You don't think it would be in the pond water do you?
