Hi everyone, I'm new here to the hunting world but am excited to learn all that I can and start hunting with my husband. I am in the process of doing my Hunters Education course online. I am also scheduled to do my Education Field Test on the 9th right outside of Nashville. I was just wondering if anyone else has been through the field test after you have complete the online course and kinda what to expect? Will there be a written test or do they just go by the score from the online course you take with you? If you do take a test there as well how hard is the test.I'm guessing I will be firing a gun, does anyone know which kind? If anyone can help answer these questions or has any advice that would be awesome. I just want to make sure I am fully prepared. Thanks in Advance.

Guess it's different everywhere. My kid's shot 20 gauges at clays and no .22's. It's not hard, I wouldn't worry about it to much, I'm sure you'll do fine! Also, welcome aboard!

My boy did his in downtown Nashville a couple years ago. They shot a .22 into the back of a specially rigged semi-trailer right downtown on Broadway in front of the Bridgestone Arena. Pretty sweet set-up.
TWRA guys there were awesome.

You will have a review question, followed by the written exam. When you finish the exam you will go to the range where you will have live fire. The live fire is not about hitting your target, it is about handling the gun safely. You may be shooting a shotgun or a rifle depending on where you take the field day.

The last one I helped with, we had a review session, then the 100 question test, and finished with pellet rifles. It is not about hitting the target. Pass the test, and handle whatever weapon safely, and you're golden.

I was told to meet the instructor (TWRA Wildlife Officer) at a field just outside of Collierville. He handed me a single-shot 20ga. break-action and a single shell. "Load this shotgun, aim at that treeline, and take a shot"
Click....Click.....BOOM!
"Congratulations, Mr. TAFKAP, you have passed Hunters' Ed."

Oh, and the written test is a breeze. I recall getting the exact same test the day before, and going through it question-by-question.

I took my test when I was 15. The instructor sat there with all of us giving us the answers to the written test then they took us to the shooting range they had our shotguns loaded for us. They handed us the gun and told us they would say pull and we just had to shoot. Don't worry about shooting the clay targets just shoot the gun. We took 3 shots and was done. We used 12ga shotguns My wife and her brother was told when they take their tests this year it will be with a .22 rifle or pellet gun. Easiest test of my life.
