When I first read this story I thought No way.

In December, the car-parts retailer AutoZone became the most recent employer to fire a worker for taking action widely admired -- but prohibited in the workplace because of the company's fear of liability. Devin McLean and his store manager in York County, Va., were herded into a back room by a gun-wielding holdup man and, being the only witnesses, understandably feared for their lives. However, McLean broke free, ran to his truck, and retrieved his gun. (He could have fled altogether but insisted that, morally, he could not abandon his colleague.) When McLean re-entered pointing his Glock 40, two things happened: (1) The robber fled, and (2) McLean became in violation of AutoZone's "zero tolerance" policy against employees bringing firearms into the store. Two days later, he was fired. [Fox News, 12-4-2012]

Well worth getting fired, but I imagine he'll find work again fast. A man of integrity is hard to find.

that is the stupidity that is floating out there.
A man saves lives and they fire him.
A liberal must run auto zone. They don't use common sense

Doesn't surprise me..I was looking for a part time 2nd job last year, and was filling an application online for auto zone and they had a big long I mean long questionaire about your perssonal activities and how you felt on certain issues..There was alot of gun related questions, even asking if you had guns in your house.I didn't even get half way through it and I quit the application process.Alot of the question had nothing to do with working at a auto parts store.

It's sad but as a retired businessman I fully understand the reason they made it company policy, because of liability. EVERY buisiness has to try it's best to limit liability or they go out of business. Things have changed over the years, today it's the ROBBER that sues the company plus any bystander.

Look around you at all the company names. We USED to see "corp" at the end of the companies names, some ever made sure it was a total part of the name ever part of the logo, take GMC.

Today all we see is "LLC" that stands for Limited Liability Corp. They are set up to limit their liability and I do not blame them one bit. Ever though I always check with my lawyer and CPA on anything important and I use them both in court sometimes I know enough that one simple little mistake can cost a company millions of dollars when it did not have to be that way.

Think about this a minute. How many of you that have carry permits have insurance to cover you if there is a shooting??? I'll bet 95% of you don't and think homeowners insurance will cover you, you'll find out too late it stops at a certain place. I myself have insurance that covers my legeal expenses and my liability. Ever there I'm trying to limit my liability to protect myself when we shouldn't have to but the sad fact is we do need it today.

I don't think any buisiness should look to much in a employees personal life. If he has not broken any laws then it's nobodys business if that person has guns or not. The oly business they have is if that person was to bring them on the job.

What's bad is the area they work in had 30 recent armed robberies by the "bearded bandit"
They said normally after a few robberies they become more violent with each robbery.
Being there 30 recent ones who knows when that guy would've started shooting.
The assistant manager even thanked him for doing what he did then corporate fired him.

I refuse to go back to autozone for what they did to a legal conceal carry permit holder and courageous person.

So do you use Texas Law shield for your carry insurance?

You have to understand that there are rules the employees all agreed to and consequences for violating policies. Its a tough situation. The guy didn't lose much IMO.
