400 yards but I practice like crazy and the conditions must be right. but I bow hunt mostly and with that its 60 practice practice practice. but I very rarely have to take a shot over 200 yards if I hunt with the rifle. I like them up close and personal. that's a pretty good poke there. what caliber were you using?

I have only been deer hunting about 2 years. with my gun my longest was about 50 yards, dropped in tracks... then her fawn at 40 yards about a minute later, also dropped in tracks (took me by surprise). With the bow, the longest was probably 20 or 21 yards. I much prefer close shots with both gun and bow. My favorite shots with the bow are 10 yards and less (I made 3 this past season - 5, 7 and 10 yards) and I like em within 30 yards or less with a gun. I just like having deer up close, gets the adrenaline pumping more. On the last day of season, I was hunting with ImThere and had to watch him shoot a big doe at least 200+ yards across a field because my gun won't shoot that far and I couldn't hold his gun steady enough to shoot. Doesn't bother me, I would rather stalk up close or have them come up close to me.

Primarily hunt woods from a climber, longest shot this season was 75 yards with Remington 700 BDL 30-06. Not many shots that far to be had where I'm hunting, but I'd feel good about it with that rifle 200 yds+ given a clear shot.

455 yds is my longest but I would rather have them up close if I can. killed 6 deer this year, 3 with a bow. the combined distance of the 6 was just under 90 yds.

Harvested 10 myself this year from 20 yards out to 175 during bow, ML and gun. Number 11, the closest, was at “0”! On my way to my lease towing the 4 wheeler; I took one with my FORD. That was one expensive hunt! The trooper said I didn’t need to use a tag on the 4 point, he listed it as road kill (had to be there, laughed like hell). A little NASCAR pit work, duct tape and bungee cords back to the hunt. Capped and mounted the antlers in a piece of the grill. My most pricey trophy to date.

Closer the better but I wont shoot much past 35 yds with my bow, 250 with my Savage MZ, and 350-400 with my beanfield rifle. All that said, my bow shots average 19 yrds and gun/mz well inside 100.

Longest shot I've taken was around 165. i would feel comfortable out to 200, past that I would have to practice a lot.
with a bow 30 yds.

45 with a bow and that was this year........with over 50 archery kills. 175 with a gun and that was also this year on my best ever buck, i really like to keep them under 200 but i would say i have killed 90%+ under 100 yards and i have taken over 130 with bow and gun....actually quit counting years ago......now it is a guess.

My longest on a deer was this year and it was something around 300yds. Got another one a minute before that shot at about 225yds. I was shooting from a pretty solid rest on a table under a shed though - I sure can't do that offhand! Funny thing is that I bought the 257Weatherby just for long shots but have carried it for 3 years now before getting a chance at a long shot. The 1st deer I got with it ran by about 35 yards away. I shot him almost as a reflex.
Most of my shots are 50-60 yds with a few ranging out around 100+ every now and then. And I hunt over fields a lot too.

My longest is 208 yards according to the cheap rangefinder I have.
I rarely have to shoot over 70 yards.
Bow hunting, I've never taken a shot over 30 yards because I've not had to yet. (Only been bowhunting 3 years)

My hunting area and style of hunting are not conducive to long shots. However, if I had the opportunity for a long-range shot, I feel comfortable up to a 150 yards with my inline MZ and 200 yards with my rifle.
So far, the longest shots I've ever attempted (with both weapons) are around a 125 yards.

I practice this so I'm confident when I take it...a little over 300 yards from a rest with an .06 Remington, Leupold scope...
