Shooting cripples on juvenile hunt?

I know that by the letter of the law it would probably be illegal, but on the juvenile duck hunt, do you think anyone would issue a citation to an adult who, while retreiving a downed duck, finished off a cripple? It wouldnt really be practicable to load an inexperienced kid into a boat with a loaded shotgun and go after a wounded and quickly escaping bird. What are your thoughts?

it would be illegal and likely would get you a citation if observed.
If I didn't want to send a message to a blind full of kids that is is OK to violate a law if you don't agree with it, I'd suggest loading up the most mature kid in the boat with an unloaded shotgun. Drive out to the cripple, load one shell, make sure the shot is safe, and kill the cripple.
If a duck gets away in the process, I'd personally consider that a much better deal than sending the wrong message to a bunch of kids.

When I was 14 and on a juvy hunt I knocked down a mallard which fell a about 75 yards from the blind and was swimming hard for the woods. My uncle quickly (and instinctively) got in the boat and cut it off, finished it off and brought it back, band and all. Without a doubt it would have gotten away had he tried to load me up and take me for the retrieve.
The spirt of the juvy hunt is to give youth hunters a better opportunity to duck hunt. Finishing off a downed cripple that would likely get away otherwise arguably helps the cause by putting more ducks in the boat that young hunters are fortunate enough to knock down. Although it violates the black letter law, its certainly not unethical. Finishing off a deer that has been hit by a car would be "illegal" in many situations if you apply the law strictly, but I would venture to guess that not many citations would be issued for such an act.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I'm not even taking anyone on the juvy this year, I was just curious about it. Thanks for your input.
