Alright alright what is Damascus?
Basically it is a combination of two metals that works to give the knife the softness and hardness to put and keep a good edge. This knife has high carbon steel and nickel.
It's a real old timey design- back to the syrian days.
I'm sure someone can chime in with more info.

Damascus is a process by which steel is hammered and folded and hammered and folded, time and again. Makes for some terribly strong blades, and incredibly attractive as well!

I have a old plug Damascus, can't remember the name. Just a old pocket knife. Been in the safe for years. If memory serves me i was offered a lot more than i paid for it. I love your knife.
