Whats a good quality AK? Im thinking of putting my Bushmaster AR up for trade, to try to swap it for a "good" AK.I don't ever shoot it,and am more fond of the AK platform,and ammo is cheaper for AK's than they are the AR..In the real world market,not now,its all high.LOL I owned a Romanian AK a few years back and shot the heck out of it,only to trade it off for a 22-250.I miss haveing one. What AK would be a fair trade for a Bushmaster XM-15?

I'm a a fan of the Arsenal SGL-21 series. They used to go for $750-800. Who knows now.

I've always considered all AK's about the same. They all look like junk but they don't know they are junk so they just keep on shooting.  As you say, they are way more practical than the AR's because of ammo prices. I have several - one being a Norinco original from the Bill Clinton ban days - that came with the bayonet. I've shot the crud out of it and it just won't die. I got one of the so-called American made AK's for a guy last November for something like $575 (I have a FFL) but haven't tried to get one since all the crazyness started. I'm sure they would be hard to find at any wholesaler now regardless of price. Did get a SAIGA 12 gauge AK not too long ago for about $950 though.

The most economical would be to buy or build an AK74' and take advantage of the even cheaper surplus ammo that is still available for it.

I'd rather have the AK74,but from my understanding all the ammo for it is corrossive...

I don't have no experience with corrosive ammo.So fill me in,I was told if you didn't clean it real good after everytime you shoot corrosive ammo through it,that it could ruin the barrel and chamber.

I call that gun-snob talk.
You think all those rebel fighters around the world shooting the same com-bloc surplus ammo are cleaning their gun after every time they shoot?
Yes, it is a little dirtier. Who cares - it's an AK, and that ammo is what it was designed to shoot.

BTW, you ever seen a "ruined" AK barrel or chamber? Yeah, neither have I... lol.

I let my Norinco AK rust to the point that the bolt froze closed and had to be stomped open - yes - literally stomped with heavy boots on the bolt handle. I took it apart and sprayed carburetor cleaner all inside and used emory cloth on everything. It shot just as reliable as before. Corrosive 7.62x39 ammo is hard to find now but I'd take it anytime if the price was cheaper than non-corrosive.
