Everyone will have to do the math over as a 5K is 3.1 miles not 3.2
Or be exact and use 3.15....1 km = 0.621 miles so 5 k= 3.15 miles

I posted this on facebook and got quite a few different answers and ways to get those answers.
I'm curious what i will get here, so if you like, give an answer but please include how you got it....thanks.
If I wanted to run a 28:00 minutes 5K, 3.2 miles, at what speed (mph) would I need to average to accomplish this.
The reason I ask is that I want to accomplish this and want to train on a treadmill at this mph.....I realize that road running and treadmill running is not the same, but I can more easily train on a treadmill by setting it at this mph ...
Please include your formula.....I'll tell you what i came up with later, but I'm not sure I am right.
again...participate if you want or not, your choice,and thanks to those that do..
5K = 3.106 miles, divided by 28:00 minutes, times 60minutes/hour = 6.658 mph
But more practically in "runner terms", you want to run a 9 minute mile

I'll ignore the math and focus more on the problem:
IMHO, trying to train based on mph. is doing it backwards, and doesn't really get you anywhere. It assumes a constant speed - which I can tell you, won't happen in real life.
What is your current 5k time on a treadmill (or road)?
Run faster till you get it under 28 minutes
Enjoy.
Your training strategy really doesn't make much sense to me.

5K = 500,000 cm, divided by 2.54 cm/inch, divided by 12"/ft divided by 5,280'/mile = 3.106855961 mi

Pffft.
5k = wherever the race organizers say the starting line is, to wherever the race organizers say the finish line is.
Goal is to get from point A to point B in 28 minutes or less.

The correct answer is...
28 / 3.2 = 8.75 = 8 min 45 sec
Now do it backwards to check it and make sure it is right.
8m 45s x 3.2 miles = 28 miles
You may want to re-read the question....
