I have a chance to buy 55 acres for a fairly good price. On one side of the farm a family friend owns 400 acres and will be a good neighbor. The other side of the farm joins a WMA that is open with the statewide seasons It gets a quite a bit of pressure. Trespassing will always be a problem I am afraid for sure during the first part of turkey season. Anyone own any land like this I just a little worried that WMA is gonna always be a problem.

If the 55 acres has some thick stuff for a sanctuary. WMA pressure could be a plus.

I join a Federal Refuge, blessing and a curse at the same time
just this week talked with the manager about marking the lines better. Had a trespasser from Ref. this year that ended up shooting a buck that we found dead, shot the buck right up the
ole A-Hole with arrow. It was still in it when we found him

55 acres in small, but just depends on how it lays by the WMA,
easy access or not?

Friend of mine has about 30 or 35 acres that border Percy Priest WMA and the pressure from it pushes animals on him. He kills a good buck every year and several turkeys. The main thing is to mark it so there is no way people on the wma don't know where the line is.

It depends on how accessible that section of thw WMA is. Will you have alot of people hunting the property line? If there is not much sign of human presence then it may be ok. Also if it has better habitat than the WMA the deer may flock into your place once the pressure kicks up.

I adjoin the TN NWR on the Tennessee river and they do not manage the old forest so there isn't much game in the area. If your WMA has a good amount of deer/turkey you could create cover habitat that would draw in wildlife during hunting season. On the other hand if the WMA doesn't have good hunting you probably won't either and you will have the hunters to deal with.

It would depend on what WMA it joined. Because I hunt 2 WMA's exclusively.

I wouldnt really want to deal with that personally, just because of the brown/down mentality that would likely be all over the WMA.
