I put my ruger in the back of the closet until I picked up my safe. When I pulled it out here is what it looked like. The corrosion doesn't really want to come off never had a stainless do such. The closet must have quite a bit of moisture. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Very, very fine steel wool with oil. You might be able to polish it up with that.

Never tried the transmission fluid, but I would start with that since it's least abrasive. Good luck.

For alum. use WD-40, it will kill the oxidation in the alum. Use a brass brush or alum. brush,(auto stores carry them) Do not use anything that will rust, (steel wool, steel bristle brush)small particals will get into the alum and eventually rust or cause more oxidation later down the road.
I would attempt the polish the receiver, but I doubt you will get all the marks out. You can clean it up really well, tape it off and paint it with alum. Rustoleum and then clear it after.
