This deer was one I would have shot last year, but he just blew up this year. I just couldn't believe my eyes when I got the first pic of him on August 13. He's the reason I passed up half a dozen bow shots at deer that would have been a personal best. I'll let the pictures tell the rest.

From the first day I got pics of him. I was blown away at the first series of pics, one of which had 7 bucks together.

I entered this picture in a field & stream trail camera contest, and didn't make the top 50...riddle me that.

A comparison of him last year and this year. It's remarkable how little the shape his tines changed. With all of the large stickers off his bases, I'd guessed him at 13 or 14 scorable points.

He dwarfs another really big 8 point. These were the 2 deer that I decided to hold out for throughout the season.

With deer season less than a week away, he was out in the middle of the day. I was pumped!

Opening day. He was just a couple hours early. This is the last pic I would get of him for several weeks.

Without velvet. I guess blood gravitated down the drop tine and made that big bulb.

I never did see this deer in person. I got a few pics of him later in the fall. He only showed his face in legal shooting light on camera once. I got a picture of him in early December, and he had dropped his droptine side. He looked a little hunched over. Hopefully he makes it to next fall and gets even more gnarly. I'm already excited.

I posted pics of him months ago (without the droptine) and asked for score guesses. What would you put him at? I'm guessing 160".

I wish I had a dollar for every time this has happened to me and my hunting buds, as well as the many times I have read about it happening on here. Mature bucks have an unbelievable way of disappearing at just the right second, only to survive another season. Like I said earlier, best of luck with him this fall, he is a dandy!

Know exactly how you feel friend. On Sept 11th pulled a card with a 6x5 monster. Many in camera forum thought he would push 170.
Actually saw him the next evening. What a brute.

Hunted hard all year and never saw him again.
Got more pics of him in late september abd early october on another farm 3 miles away.

Let a couple nice bucks walk waiting on him but he never showed again.
Not used to eating my buck tag but it was worth it.

Maybe next year.

The racks are practically identical. The right side tines point straight up and the left ones sweep forward. Even that characteristic remains constant.

I think it is the same deer as well. Hope he hangs onto the drop tine next year for you. One of the largest drop tine deer I got to watch grow, he had them one year next year only one, etc etc

Best of luck. Hope you can get him figured out and hunt him when it is right!

If I ever got something like that first picture from any of the places I hunt I would not know what to do with myself. That is awesome.

Here's hoping you get to bump heads with him next season. Maybe he'll hang on to that drop tine and add a little more garbage up top. Be forewarned that drops like that stink to high heaven since they don't shed all the way. Sounds like you're going to have to get after him right off the bat.

What an awesome deer. Hope you get him.

Ok, so you know the whereabouts of several really nice bucks.

Chances are, they will be in the same area next year.

Here is my suggestion, it has worked out for me several times.

Go now, and prep several stand sites in the area you suspect will hold the bucks early in the bow season next Fall.

Then, get out, and STAY out of that area.

Opening morning next Fall, wind correct, slip in quietly and hunt.

Forget the trail cams, they are putting your scent in that area.

Just a suggestion.

They are indeed KY deer. I had shots at 2 of the deer in the pics - 5 opportunities at the deer with 2 kickers off the left G2, and 1 at the buck with split brow tines (found him dead last week).

Yeah I had a pic of him in early December without the big side. He looked skinny. Hope he makes it.
