If you're a Nam Vet, you might like to see this presentation, if you haven't already: General Zunni on Viet Vets

The atmosphere back then was just different...I was scared every day I was going to Vietnam especially after I dropped my college deferment, didn't drop out of college just decided to drop my deferrment...draft lottery numbers drawn on television and whole households sitting there in agony or joy depending on the draw

Then I was kind of scared not to go, do my part...so, I decided to just let them draft me. They didn't...and, honestly, I was glad. My dad wanted me to join up and my mom wanted me to move to Canada (Mom worked for the Air Force)...

Nobody I knew ever even heard of Viet Nam except in the peace songs and rally protests. Jane Fonda and a few others reportedly betrayed our country...it was a helluva scary time for many young man. Country Joe and the Fish were singing on every radio station "It's one two three four what are we fighting for, don't ask me I don't give a dam, next stop is Vietnam"

The vets never and still don't get their just due...God bless them all!

This thread brings back many memories; all bad. Do ya'll remember when the protestors would taunt President Johnson every time he appeared in public with "hey hey LBJ, how many babies did you kill today?"

Coach, I was In college, and registered for the draft during that period. And, would have went if called. They pulled some of my classmates out of school and sent them to nam. We were required to take Army ROTC our freshman year.

Same here Dr...except we didn't take ROTC...I lived around all of those Colonel Majors and Major Colonels during those years and they were always trying to get me to sign up but I never would...Still had a lot of wild in me then
