All,

I have a number of stands where the padding has detoriated over time. I have used pipe insulation to replace, but it does not last long. Any ideas on something I could wrap around the pipe insulation to make it last or any other ideas? Thanks.

I also use pipe insulation but instead of using zip ties or using self sticking, i use camo duct tape and wrap the whole thing. It keeps it tight and i have some thats been out over 5 years and is still there without any problems.

I used the pipe insulation then hung a drape of camo burlap over it, secured with zipties.
Protects the pipewrap from UV, and keeps deer from seeing my fidgeting feet.

I assume that by pipe insulation you are using fiberglass or the cheap rubber. Have you tried Armaflex? It is used in wrapping chill water pipes and you can get it in varying thicknesses. It is designed not to soak up water so that won't be something to be worried about. You can get the Armaflex glue from where you get the Armaflex and it works amazing. I padded a couple of seats with it and it works great. Still padded. You won't be disappointed.

I used pipe insulation onetime on shooting rails on a home made stand. When it got really cold, like below freezing, it was really loud when I laid my gun on it. I took it off that morning !

I have used both thick weather stripping with self adhesive backing and used the bed liner in a spray can. Both work, but now I love the bed liner in a can. Makes it rust proof and keeps rifle from getting scratched. Doesn't do much for noise, but it does wonders for keeping the rail protected

and that glue can be messy as crap...I worked with it for about 16 years and it will soak up water if the smooth side is torn.... I hope I never see another chiller or chill water pump.

I use the cloth camo tape over the home depot pipe insulation... but I dont leave my stands out for more then a week... havent done one in 7-8 years so
