After my response to someones post early about is Hevi shot worth it or not, I wanted to post this.

I have had problems with the Hevi-shot brand shells coming apart at the ends, allowing the pellets and buffer stuff to come out and have also had problems with the rim of the brass, getting bummed up and the gun not being able to grab them properly. But other than that, they have always patterned really good. I now use winchester extended range, about the same price and patterns about the same for me.

I just haven't cared much for Hevi-shot brand shells since Remington quit making them.

never had any of that with mine and ive shot them the past 4 years. Shot #7's #6's and Magblends in both 3" and 3.5"

as i said in the other thread, when i shot 7's there seemed to be good and bad lot numbers but have not seen anything like that in the 6's or magblends.

I had it happen with a couple of batches of 3 in Number 5 Hevi Shot shells. Tan shells. After a few times cycled through my 870, the crimps would split a little. I "fixed" them with a little hot wax dripped on the end, but they aren't super durable

I have had some of my Hevi shells "leak" some of the buffer due to poor crimps.... Just take and smear some Elmers glue over the crimp.... when you shoot, it will just flake off and out the barrel with the shot.

As far as I can think bank, I guess it was the brown ones in 3" and 3.5". The crimps would come apart allowing the buffer to leak out, and then the buffer would get into the guns action and other moving parts and caused some slight problems. The biggest problems I have with them was the rim of the brass getting bummed and dinged and my gun not being able to grab the shell to unload or eject after shot.

Nope but I have had that problem with the winchester supremes. Must be a common problem with most "turkey loads".

I have had that happen to mine I started putting some glue on them with a tooth pick to fill the crimp. Then I put a coat of finger nail polish on them. Works good for me.

Every box I had of the older Remington Hevi leaked buffer. I always put glue on them. I got some hevi 13 a couple years ago for my daughter to shoot. I didn't check them and they leaked buffer in the magazine. It was so bad that I couldn't unload the gun. When we got home, I checked all the shells and some were not only leaking buffer but had shot coming out too.

Had two Mag blends that the crimp failed last year. I noticed one prior to use, but the other was one that wasn't noticed until my partner shot. Sounded like a .22 going off. Thankfully, he was able to get off a second shot.

I will try the glue trick on all of them from now on.
