I see a lot of guys on here that use Harvester Crush Rib Sabots in their MLIIs, but which ones are used for .458 projectiles and where do you get them? I went to harvestermuzzleloading.com and could only find sabots for .451-.452 projectiles, and I like to use 300gr .458 Hornady hollow points, with a possible future switch to Barnes Originals. I also have a good bit of 300gr SSTs that I would like to use up, so would the .451-.452 cr sabots work well for those?

I currently use orange MMPs, which are easy enough to load, but tend to lose petals when shooting (45gr 5744, IIRC). When using .452 projectiles and the .451-.452 MMPs in the past, I had to beat them down the barrel to load, so I must have a tight bore. I was hoping to maintain the easy loading, while hopefully tightening up my groups a bit with a tougher sabot.

Thanks in advance

To clarify or clear up your confusion a little on the Black Crush Rib sabots...they are marked for use with a .451-.452 dia bullets BUT it was discovered that that they worked extremely well for .458 dia. bullets due to the crush rib design.Although they do not say for use with .458 bullets on the package this is what you want for .458s in a .50 cal.

East TN Hunter, If you like the hornaday .458 hollowpoints then you need to check out the SPEER version. It is a UNICOR bullet that has a bonded core and is much tougher than the hornaday and remingtons that come apart easily. The part # is 2482.

The 300gr SST is not bonded and have been known to grenade easily. The 325FTX has a thicker jacket, making it tougher than the 300gr SST. If you would like, I can post cut-away pics.

Cutaway pics would be cool, but I already have a boxe of 100 Hornady HPs. To be honest with you, I shot deer with that bullet this year at 5, 45, and 150+ yards, and I had complete pass throughs and great performance on all.

I have also used the SSTs on deer at similar distances with similar results, but I got a good deal on some blems is that reason that Ihave these. I do use the 300 grain SSTs, so that probably makes some difference.

I may consider the BO, but they are spendy for a poboy like me. I had considered the Hornady FTX as a poor man's sub for the BO, but it will take me a while to get through what I have. I like Speer ok, though, and may check them out.
