If some got their way and it was shortened would it have a noticable affect on the population or just shift herd patterns that we wouldnt see?

I'm sure it would just shift their patterns, but I guess it is plausable to assume that less time = less kills.
However one could also assume with less time people would be less selective, less picky and less patient and just kill the normal amount of deer they do by shooting the first deer that comes by. I killed 4 this past season, but passed at least 10-12 deer. if time was shorter I would not pass some of those deer to ensure i got the deer i wanted for the freezer.

bone collector is right as some people would not change the way they hunt I think I whole lot more people would be a lot less picky.

Yeah, those states with just a week to hunt would be depressing for me. If you get sick or some job related crud came up, you miss the whole season!

I passed on a whole bunch of deer during rifle season that i probably wouldn't have if i didnt have so much time to be selective
