I've been tossing around the idea of going back to an SUV. The only time I ever really use my truck for "truck" purposes is when I need to pick something up or haul off some small brush from trimming the limbs in the yard.

When I go hunting I usually take my dad's truck or the tractor.

Anybody got rid of their truck? Regret it?

I held on to mine. If I sold it, I'd only get around $4k for it. I use it once a week, taking trash to the dump. In the summer I do haul mulch and maybe a few shrubs I purchase. And during hunting season I use it. I could get by without it, but it does have it's uses.

I got two 4x4 pickups. 1988 3/4 Chevy is basically a farm truck but I don't farm. 2002 full 4 door, Diesel, Allison used to haul a little bit but mostly to go to town or out to eat.
Really do not need either but can't part with them.
But I'm not going to complain because my wife has two vans.

Vanity and foolishness of us old folks I guess.

I am pretty sure that is a pretty bad man card violation! I have spent a grand total of 3 of my driving years without a truck and I will never go back to that.

Turning in your truck could get your man card revoked quicker than carrying a man purse.

I love to drive my truck. Cannot imagine not having it. Only downside of owning a truck is friends and neigbors without a truck always wanting me to haul something for them.

I had a truck from 1986 until 2006 (different trucks). I then sold the truck and bought a Hummer H3. Sucked pulling a boat, couldn't see the trailer when the boat was off. Couldn't haul mulch for landscaping. Had to have a rack to haul a deer on. Had to use a dang trailer with a tarp in it. Missed my truck at least 2 times a week. Drove the Hummer for 4 years and said screw it and bought my Tundra.

Haven't missed the Hummer at all.

I had a Tahoe before this truck. I've had this truck about a year and a half, and I miss the Tahoe. Just a smooth ride with lots of inside room. Whenever we travel to my parents or to visit my wife's family... we take her SUV. It isn't as big as a Tahoe, and with me, her, the kid, a 90lb lab, and all the bags/gear for the kid, golf clubs, hunting gear... it gets crowded really quickly. We may add another kid to the rotation in the next year or two, and I think a bigger SUV would be nice.

I have a feeling I'll just put a BakFlip tonneau cover on the truck and suck it up. Maybe I can talk her in to getting rid of hers and getting something bigger, although she hated driving the Tahoe. Oddly enough she likes driving my truck... she likey the Hemi! \:\)

It's kind of funny at work. The guys I go to lunch with a lot all have either SUV's or cars. One has a 4 door Jeep. When it is time to leave we meet outside. 90% of the time they are all standing by my truck for me to drive. They think my Tundra has more room in it than their vehicles.

I had nothing but trucks until 2003. I have been driving the same 2 door Tahoe since. I love my Tahoe, and it's a great vehicle, but I want a 4 door full size Chevy/Gmc so bad I can taste it. I will never be without a truck again. My wife drives a Suburban and loves it.

You know how some people are sports car junkies? I'm that way about trucks. I've had a truck since 1997. A Ford Ranger for 2 yrs, and a Ford F150 after that. My next vehicle will be a truck, it's just a matter of which company. Hopefully I'll always have a truck.

Nyper, I've borrowed my brother's Chevy Tahoe. I liked it, and my wife liked it even more than me. I could see us getting one.

Keep the truck and put a cover on the bed. I just put one from Access Covers on my F250 this weekend. When my kids were little I had a Tacoma and put a camper top on it because of all the baby crap you speak of. I went a month or two without a truck a couple of years ago after I sold the one I had and before I found the one I wanted and I hated it.

I've owned 2 Tahoes over the past 13 years. I'm thinking about getting a truck, but still not sure since I've made due without one for so long. There are a few days a year when I really wish I had one. I love my Tahoe, though.

I drive a SUV daily, and have several trailers of varying sizes and capacities, but I don't think I could function without having a 4x4 "farm truck" at home for when it is needed.

I got my first truck in 1979. I am on my 5th one now. I see myself always having a truck. Its just a truck thing with me. When I was a boy, we always had a truck. I still remember my dads first new truck. It was a plain jane white Dodge regular cab, 3 on the tree with a straight six. All vinyl inside. When it got dirty inside, we'd take the water hose to it and in a few minutes it was good as new.
I fell better when I drive my truck, I feel safer in my truck, I just love my truck. It's an evil Ford truck.

When we had our first baby 5 years ago I sold my standard cab truck and bought a cheap car off Ebay so that we could keep paying the bills and stay out of debt (that approach paid off!!).

I finally bought a used truck last spring (crew cab '06 F150 4x4).

In the time between, I loaded a couple of deer and a fair amount of small game into the trunk of my car when I couldn't borrow my dad or my brother's truck for a hunting trip.

Not having any sort of towing vehicle AND not having a truck made it pretty tough. I was borrowing vehicles pretty regularly. In '11 I got a receiver and trailer hitch installed on my wife's Ford Escape (V6), and that helped a bit.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't be 100% against getting a decent mid-sized flat bed trailer and selling my truck.

Primary reasons:
1 - gas is expensive when you are getting 15 MPG, which means that I only drive the truck on weekends anyway. Extra maintenance of a 3rd vehicle that needs a little work just adds to the expenses (insurance, oil changes, repairing stuff, tires in the next year, etc.).
2 - Most of my hunting spots are places I walk in, so the 4x4 gets very little use (that was half the reason I originally bought it)
3 - I don't own a boat, and my dad's boat is small enough that I could pull it with my wife's SUV.
4 - A trailer would replace the truck bed for those odd jobs.

All that said, I'm determined to go at least another whole year before deciding one way or the other. I keep telling myself that once I get a few things fixed on the truck, I'll like it better. It's also very nice to have a 3rd vehicle for backup that can easily carry the family around.

Got rid of my F150 and bought me an Acura TL type S and loved it especially the gas mileage. But with my lifestyle I needed to go back to a truck especially when the kid came along 2 years ago, bending over putting him the back seat of an Acura was gonna kill me at my age lol. Traded the Acura and got a Tundra it doesnt have the bells and whistles or the gas mileage but it gets the job done. Plus its hard to pull a boat with an Acura sports car.

Have had a truck for almost all my life. Started with a 1962 Studebaker when I was 16. Only time I did not have one was for a couple years from 08 to 10.

I went about 14 months without a truck. Had a 99 Wrangler and it just didn't cut it. Love a truck, just wish it got better gas mileage. If your shopping for trucks, do yourself a favor and avoid Chevy. My 07 Silverado was the biggest POS I ever owned. Never again will own a Chevy.
