Yes, if you have a valid carry permit. However, the carry weapon may not be used in any way for hunting with the exception of the gun deer season if it is a legal caliber.

I may be incorrect but to be used it also has to have legal ammo I believe. Non FMJ ammunition.

Correct.

If the gun cannot and IS not going to be used for hunting in any way, why does the ammo have to meet the requirements for hunting ammo? Seems like a bad law to me.

It says "to be used". What he was implying is if you carry during firearms season, and want to use it, it must have legal ammunition.

Depends on what you are "using" the handgun on - thugs or game animals. Most guns that you carry to conceal would be the last thing I would want if I was trying to actually hunt with a handgun - for instance a Ruger Super Blackhawk makes a great deer gun but don't hide too well under a T-shirt. \:\)

But I see the context of all the above, it's clear now. Thanks, SCN!

I have a HCP and do carry when hunting on my lease. During archery season had a “yotie” walking by, just out of bow range, was temped to “nail” him with my side arm. Tempted yes! Handgun Carry General Regulations came to mind, don’t send the round. Wish the DNR would review that part when it comes to this predator.
