and I am done for a good while, next will be pan lubing them, I now pan lube and shoot as cast since my Paul Jones Creedmoore mould is so accurate

1261 waiting to be boxed, 1804 already boxed, let the lubing begin

it only took about 50 hours and 2 1/2 bottles of propane

about 185 pounds of lead if my math is correct

What alloy are you using for that .40, and what load are you using for it? I am about to start casting for mine, but I will be using a lee 6 cavity mould. I used to reload cast boolits for my 45/70, but those were gaschecked and sized to .460

I am using Starline brass, annealed, 3/4 full length resized, CCI BRI Large Rifle Primer, coffee filter wad in base of case to control primer firing, 57 grains of Swiss 1.5 Black Powder dropped down a 30 inch drop tube, all powder charges are weighed, 0.03 Walters fiber wad on top of powder, total charge is compressed to a total space of .484 neck space left, coffee filter wad inserted to keep walters wad from sticking to base of DGL lubed bullet, bullet seated on top of charge so as to not put any pressure on base of bullet yet leave no air space between charge and bullet base, bullet is seated with an inline seater.

this will produce groups 1 1/2 inches at 300 yards iron sights if I have my "A" game on, usually its 4-5 inch 10 shots groups at 300 yards using "iron sights"

I shoot my boolits hand cast "as is" and pan lube so I will not distort the boolit

it only took me 2 years to get to this level, lol, and I am way behind the guys out west

your lee 6 cavity mould will never cast a very accurate long range boolit if you are interested in "long range shooting", the mould is just not cut that accurate nor will you be able to keep the temperature of the mould stable to get consistant weights of your boolits

all of the 3065 bullets that I cast are within 0.50 grains +/-, which is a bullet that you can not purchase of this quality,

not being harsh on my statements, but I am going after "competition match grade ammo"

the alloy is certified 30:1 purchased from Buffalo Arms or Rotometals, this is what Mr Paul Jones recommended based on me shooting a Shiloh Sharps .40-65

As interested as you are in black powder cartridge shooting, you ought to try attending one of the matches at the NMLRA range in Friendship, Indiana. Most of those guys up there are pretty laid back as well as decent shots and they always welcome new shooters with open arms....at least until you start beating them....LOL

0.

I have toyed with the idea of a road trip, if I do make a trip it will probably be out west where the "sharpshooters" seem to hang out

Some of the guys that shoot up there also shoot at Raton. They are every bit as much marksmen as some of our western friends.

I,ll have to admit, though, that the western scenery would make shooting our BPCRs a more pleasurable experience.
