Ok, first off, I have never hunted/know anything about waterfowl hunting. So, my first cousin has a large pond, and from what I've been told, many years ago their old neighbors started raising domesticated Muscovy Ducks, and the population has sky rocketed here lately, and going by my cousin, they seem to be getting more wild, loosing their domestic behavior, even though they still get somewhat close to you. Well here is my question: today, since I go small game hunting alot, they asked me to shoot one or two of the ducks.....So do I still need a waterfowl license to shoot what was once domestic ducks that just stay around their pond all the time, and do I still need to use steel shot, or will any ammo be legal on this? Like I said, I've never hunted waterfowl, so my knowledge on this subject is very small, so this was probably a stupid question. Thank you.

I'm not sure. I'll have to discuss this with a couple of folks on Tuesday.

I'm in the 90+% range that they are totally domestic and don't require any of the waterfowl stuff. But, I'm not at 100%.....

the waterfowl license is much cheaper than a citation especially with little or no experience and you miss "id" just "1" flying "wild duck", inexperienced eyes can cause a lot of misery, I have seen it happen to many times

another thought, with no experience and kill the wrong duck, and there are Muscovy Ducks sitting on the pond, "are you hunting over live decoys or tolling ducks"

I know the identification of these birds, and I know the true wild ducks that visit the pond. The Muscovy ducks though act different and are everywhere, and even get in the way when I go kill time and fish at the pond, and sometimes they walk close enough I think I can pick up a rock and kill one with it. Just a couple of weeks ago they (my cousins) asked me to put up some lattice, to help keep them from getting under their porch and in their garage. The only time I see them fly is between two other ponds within a 100 yrds apart...most of the time they just walk. I was only asked to kill the Muscovys, cause they love their wildlife, but they want the "domestic" or "used to be domestic" ducks to be thinned out.

I double-checked and the Muscovy ducks are considered domestic and would not require any of the federal migratory bird regulations to be met.
If you were hunting miratory ducks on those ponds with the muscovys present, there would likely be "live decoy" issues.

Alright, thank you very much. That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure.

So the real question becomes..."what do Muscovy ducks taste like?"

Well, my uncle wanted the duck, and he said that it was a little tough (but it was an older one), but other than that it was great....So I may go get one for myself if my cousins want anymore of them gone, which I know I would since they keep getting under the car port haha
