Not sure i like the part of that Montana law that mentions firearms manufactured in the state. Does it not protect all the firearms made outside of the state? If tn restricts this to tn made firearms which ones would be protected? Barrett but how many in the state own a Barrett made weapon?
that gets around the interstate commerce laws.

There is a Tennessee State House Bill - HB42 on the floor now! http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/HB0042.pdf Here is a portion of it: (a) Any federal law, statute, rule, regulation, or executive order implemented or executed on or after January 1, 2013 shall be unenforceable within the borders of this state if the law, statute, rule, regulation, or executive order attempts to: (1) Ban or restrict ownership of a semi automatic firearm, firearm accessory, or ammunition; or (2) Require any firearm, firearm accessory, or ammunition to be registered in any manner. Make sure your representative is standing behind this bill!
It appears that whoever drafted this bill forgot about that pesky U.S. Constitution:
Article VI ......
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
......

Does the constitution still apply to the folks in DC? I think about half the things that the Feds are involved in now days were not mentioned in the original document, and therefore, should have been reserved for the states or private citizens (think Healthcare, Education, Social Security, etc.)
Tenth Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Not saying that I don't love the constitution and think it is the greatest platform ever upon which to build a government (which I do), but it is pretty tragic to see how little it is regarded these days. Only half the country thinks it needs to be respected.

It was a good rally, I think. Certainly well attended and coordinated with similar rallies in many other states.
In what I do (in my spare time) with the Tennessee Firearms Association, we already have more than 10 bills that we are tracking. We are seeing bills to close the permit holder database, to create special classes of permits (something I oppose), the "2nd Amendment Protection Act" (HB 0042 which I generally support but there is another I like better), bills to make some teachers essentially trained law enforcement SRO's (which I do not like), to increase penalties, etc.
I have also seen a bill put together by Senator Beavers that takes her 2009 Firearms Freedom Act (TN was the first state to pass this law) and then adds some strength to it, extends the protection to real 2nd Amendment arms, and incorporates some of the objectives of the Carr bill that uses the "model language" that is offered in other states.
I expect to see 50 or so firearms/hunting related bill by mid-February we will be tracking in TFA.
For those of you who are not aware, anyone can get the free TFA email alerts which track and report on the progress, amendment and calendaring of pending legislation. Go to the TFA site and look for the menu item to subscribe to TFALAC Alerts.
