Have a few areas being cleared to turn into plots and I assume I will see a lot of seed bank competition come spring. That said whats the best thing to start with in these spots to allow easy control of competition with herbicide or mowing?
If I plant clover whats the best way to knock back the competition come spring green up? Would Poast Plus kill tree resprouts?
I am also considering just planting grain rye and wheat as a first crop and mow it down and spray with roundup in the summer. Then work to establish clover plots next fall.
My experience with clover over the years have been to plant them in the Fall. That gives the roots more time to get established before the drought and heat hits. Planting in the Spring can be more of a gamble of burning up during the summer months. I use Post Plus and it seems to take care of the sappling problems along with the occassional mowing.
