Coal Creek is now banning all hunting on their 72k acres. They state that they don't want hunters riding around with deer on their ATVs to be seen by non-hunting riders. They're concerned it will affect permit sales. Coal Creek OHV and North Cumberland are connected like puzzle pieces. My questions are:
- Does TWRA have any agreement with Coal Creek?
- Will TWRA now enforce keeping the non-permitted and non-hunting ATV riders out of North Cumberland?
- Can someone with authority talk to Coal Creek about making the area "archery only" if it's a safety concern?
This is a huge loss to area hunters, especially if ATV riders continue to disrupt, litter and damage the area during hunting seasons.

Wonder if we could get the email of whoever is in charge and send him an email of every permit that he just lost if that would help?

I've never been there but I sent them an email, seems to me that is a stupid business decision because instead of just losing a few atv riders they just lost 100% of there hunters but hey, what do I know about business.

My email: I understand hunting is going to be banned on Coal Creek property. I would like to offer a compromise that will satisfy the concerns. Make Coal Creek an archery only area and sell a hunting permit in addition to the riding permit. With this aditional permit is a guide addressing rules of conduct. One such rule would be that harvested animals must be covered when returning to the parking area. These changes will greatly reduce the number of hunters, remove the safety issues and avoid alarming or offending non-hunters on the property.
Thank you for your consideration,
Darren

Makeing it archery only isn't going to solve anything...If they are gonna allow archery hunting, why not allow gun hunting?

my email: It has been brought to my attention that hunting is now prohibited on Coal Creek lands. It seems you are worried about permit sales being affected by allowing hunting. I can tell you this WILL affect permit sales as I and my family and friends will no,longer buy permits for your area. I will tell every hunter i know and encourage a boycott. There are many other places to ride where hunters are welcome.
their response: Thanks for contacting me. Since Coal Creek started selling permits 13 years ago, hunting has not been allowed. This is not new and our policy has not changed. Internally, our policy is that so long as people have a permit and are not hunting near a gas well or OHV trail (not endangering themselves or others) we don't say something to them. I'm sorry you feel the need to start some kind of boycott. The biggest problem is that so many hunters or others come to the property (especially in our more remote areas) without a permit.

Piss on Coal Creek. It may hurt em, but they know they make there money of the utv's. They can blame trespassing all they want, but more people trespass to simply ride than they do to hunt. Most people that access through Briceville have never purchased a permit.

If hunting was never officially allowed, just not punished, what are you guys mad about? Getting all angry and tossing out threats is NOT the way to address this and get results.
I am an OHV guy and a hunter... And I don't have a problem with seeing an uncovered deer on an ATV.

it is a very remote area. why do you need to carry anywhere when you are just living day to day? better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I bow hunt but i would never go against gun hunters, dang when are all hunters going to stick together. I see this in my home dumb jackwagon state of new york. Sometimes i feel bow hunters really hurt hunting as a whole.

The "misinformation" or "rumor" came to me directly from their security officer when I went there to coyote hunt this past weekend. He stated that it would be on the permit next year that no hunting is allowed. I suggested bow hunting because of the ever growing number of ATV riders in the area. It's not a matter of hunters sticking together. Most hunters do both. It's a matter of addressing their safety concerns. I could see where they might worry about a rider being struck by a stray bullet. Bow hunting would be a way to avoid them banning hunting completely or begin enforcing a no hunting rule that was never on the permit.

If there is any truth to this Coal Creek is taking the wrong side. It's the anti-hunters who are also against logging, coal mining, fracking of oil wells and oil exploration in general. In my opinion, I think they should be open to hunting 1st and then have OHV permits available for the rest of the year! And I told them so when I emailed them.

F.W.I.W. the security officer stated that a lot of people were upset about the hunting issue, so apparently I'm not the only person he's stopped. He gave me a very specific list of reasons. I've been hunting and riding up there since before they even had permits and I had never seen this guy before. He was checking permits at the entrance from the parking lot. I'm beginning to wonder if he's just a new gung-ho officer getting a bunch of people fired up over nothing. I certainly hope so.

From their Website: Hours of use The Coal Creek OHV Area is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. A Land Use Permit is required to access the area.
Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the area. Membership is not required.
" Everyone is Welcome"
Seems to me that a mining company doesn't want to side with a bunch of Liberals that want to also take away mining....

I never knew hunting was even allowed. I have been riding there for several years now and have never seen or heard anything about hunting until now. That makes two of us. I used to ride up there until some idiot in a rail buggy about killed my whole family. Too many speed demons on that side of the mountain for me.
