If you are throwing stripe plugs you may just get hooked up with a bruiser trout. Stripes below CH are not really a winter thing from my experiences- hope this helps and welcome to tndeer!

The stripers usually arrive in early summer, say June. They are seeking out the cooler waters of the Caney Fork River.

I did some research and found out that rockfish don't go all the way to the dam. They stay down the caney fork river, do you know any spots for trying for rockfish down river, an common spot that rockfish are caught. Thanks!!

They absolutely do go all the way to the dam but only in the summer months. I have yet to catch one there but striper fishing is something I'm just getting into so I'm not good yet. I know several guys who have caught some very large rockfish below that dam.

No rockfish in that river.....ever....try somewhere else......they hate that river....nothing for em' to eat there......definately go somewhere else....hope this helps.... What he said:)
y=we went camping down there this weekend and one guy caught a 14 lbs rockfish but it was the only one i saw. i have fished that dam for years and you can get lucky and get one or so in the winter time but its hard. but they are definitly a few up there this time of year but not many.

Striperhunter, where do you think it's the best spot to fish for stripers during generation, next to the dam or down river. I've heard that people catch monster stripers down river on lures in summer months. I'm looking for my first striper and I'm all about catch n release. Thanks!!

I've seen them in the water while wading and trout fishing as far up as Happy Hollow but I know for a fact that on high water and heavy generation they move all the way up to the dam. Throw large swimbaits as close to the wall as you can get them and let them drift downstream. Keep no slack in the line and wait for the strike. To my understanding none of them will be in the Caney this time of year but some say otherwise, that there may be a few here and there. Either way, if you're looking to catch your first rockfish below OHD is your best bet. Wait until the weather warms up and they'll move back into the Caney.
