"If there be a principle that ought not to be questioned within the United States, it is, that every nation has a right to abolish an old government and establish a new one. This principle is not only recorded in every public archive, written in every American heart, and sealed with the blood of a host of American martyrs; but is the only lawful tenure by which the United States hold their existence as a nation." --James Madison, Helevidius, No. 3, 1793

Along with George Washington, and to a very slightly lesser degree, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison is an absolute Titan of American History, and is my co # 1 Founder.
He literally wrote the book on the Bill of Rights.

It should've been a book, as it turned out it was a page. They were then no different from today except their lives were at risk. The same political games were played then as now.

Did you hear the President say "We are not dead beats", gave me a chuckle. One of the very first acts of these Titans was the Assumption bill because "We are no dead beats". What the bill did was make all the money pre revolution that ended up practically worthless after the revolution worth it's face value. Problem was Shay's rebellion had already taken place (look it up, it was how we supported our troops by taking their land away after they fought and died) and after many politicians and creditors who knew what the bill would do went out and bought those worthless (at the time) notes for pennies from the struggling people who had them.

When the bill passed those who said "we are no dead beats" realized a clear profit in that day of 40 million dollars. The bill was held up because Jefferson wouldn't endorse it, he had many followers. Hamilton the dead beat speech makeer and profiteer made a deal with Jefferson, he would approve his bill if Jefferson went along with the Assumption bill, he agreed, but to his credit didn't understand what was about to happen and when he found out was furious. Still the poor remained poor and Hamilton and his kind realized their American dream which Hamilton said was "The county's purpose is so the wealthy can make money off of it".

All true admirers of the founders should do what they did on their own, eat history up with a spoon.

A lot of people here would enjoy G.A.Henty known in his day as the boys own historian. He would put a fictional person in a historical setting, through their eyes the history was played out. He lived in the late 1800's. You Tenn. boys would love his "With Lee in Virginia".
