Didnt want to hijack another post, but I am a driver education teacher in Northern Alabama. It amazes me at the number of kids that have never driven until they are in the car with me.
I drove on my dads lap when I was young, on our farm, lawnmowers, and go carts. Therefore when I turned 16 it was already second nature to me.
How did you fellas learn to drive?

In a tobacco patch. 69 Ford truck w/ 4 speed and granny gear.

I remember having to move cars around in order to play Basketball in the driveway, I think I was 15 when I hit the road, Sister let me drive. It came pretty easy to me. I had my kids in my lap driving until they were too heavy, they also turned a lot of laps on go-karts. Came pretty easy to them as well.
I didn't know what scared was until I let them drive off by themselves to school.

In a 2 seater Bronco with a bed, 3 speed. My Dad got aggravated at me and the clutch but I finally got it. Either 12 or 13 years old. Was driving solo at 14. We lived on backroads.

7 years old.
Load the back end up with bricks, drive to the back of the place and unload them (stacked each time, not thrown) 1968 Ford pickup with a three on the tree.
I had just started mowing the yard (hated it, still do) and told my dad if I had to drive the mower I wanted to drive the truck.
He said get in and we didn't get out till I had it.

I grew up in the 70's so laws were a little more relaxed then than they are now. We had a go cart we raced up and down the road on. (no helmet of course) My first official real car I drove was at 13 and was a 1974 Ford Station Wagon I drove around our pasture. Hard to wreck in a 20 acre field. I do remember it was bumpy and lumpy running around on it.
Learned how to drive a stick shift on an old dump truck.
Taught both of my children how to drive on the old logging roads on the leases I was on. They were both very familiar how to drive before any school related drivers ed.

We moved the cars around in the yard to wash them. First one I remember moving was a 76 Ford LTD and it was a land barge. My first memories of driving were in my grandfather's little orange Datsun truck that we called the Orange Crush. It was a regular cab with a manual tranny. My brother is 3 years older than me and one of us would sit in Pap's lap and control the steering wheel while the other one shifted the gears. Pap would work the pedals. They'd put us in jail now I guess for going down the road like that.

When my legs were almost long enough driving a C-Farmal witch I already knew how to drive from satting in my daddy's lap.

I was moving the tractor in the hay fields when I was 7. My grandfather built me a dune buggy from a Volkswagen engine and frame when I was 9. By the time I was 13 dad had me driving half way across the state for juvenile hunts. He would get out of sight of the house, pull over and hand me the keys and tell me to go. Most of the time he would take a nap.
I failed the written drivers test the first time I took it! LOL
